ABOUT THE YAK

The story of the yak is one that we love to tell here at Shokay

THE HAPPIER THE YAK, THE COMFIER THE KNITS

Tibetan yaks are semi-nomadic, graze on natural and pollution-free grass and have the space to roam and explore! Most importantly, the herding process involves no cruelty, caging or unnatural treatment towards these beautiful animals.

Our fibers are traceable to local communities in Tibetan regions

We work directly with local communities and train their young leaders on the best animal welfare practices and on our classification process to separate fibers by quality right at the source.

Yak - the premium alternative to wool

30% warmer than wool1.6X more breathable than cashmere

More luxurious than wool
Yaks live in altitudes above 3500m, and each yak only provides 100g of its precious wool each year. The softest yak wool is handcombed from the neck and shoulders.

More sustainable than wool
Shokay directly connects with Tibetan communities and purchases fiber in a fair and transparent way. Compared to goats and sheep, yaks are a more sustainable animal. They have lower methane emissions and gentler grazing practices.

More affordable than cashmere
Yak wool costs 30% less than cashmere, but the hand feel is just as luxurious.
